January 31, 2007 US Navy Purchases $15M in Nonelectric Detonators Shock Tube Systems, Inc. located in Sterling, CT has received an estimated $15 million firm fixed price, indefinite delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for MK 154, Mod 0 Nonelectric Delay Detonators. The MK 154 Mod 0 Nonelectric delay detonator is a dual initiating/-detonating device commonly used by the Navy, Marine Corps, and Special Forces to initiate various explosive demolition materials. The product consists of 100-feet of dual shock tube wound on a spool with two high strength detonators on one end. The other end of the shock tube has STS’s patented in-line initiator that mates with standard Navy firing devices.
STS was recently awarded US Patent 7,086,335 B2 on its dual shock tube product.
Production will be performed at the STS facility in Sterling, CT and is expected to be complete by January 2012. The contract was competitively procured and advertised on the Internet with 6 proposals solicited and two offers received by the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division in Crane Indiana.
